Fleet of electric taxis to be introduced for summer season
At the initiative of the Prince’s Government, a fleet of 20 electric taxis will be introduced during the week beginning 1 July for a test period lasting until 31 October.
These 100%-electric vehicles will carry out journeys within Monaco only, although they will serve the Monte-Carlo Beach, Monte-Carlo Country Club and Marriott Hotel. The basic fare, not including waiting time, is set at €15. It will be possible to hail the taxis in the street.
Seven vehicles will be available at all times: 24 hours a day, seven days a week. The white eco-taxis will have a unique visual identity, featuring flocking mandated by the Government. Five charging points will be dedicated solely for their use (two on Square Beaumarchais, one in front of the Neptune building in Fontvieille and two whose location is still to be confirmed). They will also be able to use the 18 charging points installed at various locations on the Principality’s streets.
Licensed taxi operators have purchased an electric vehicle in addition to their own on a voluntary basis, and have received standard government assistance towards the purchase. Drivers who are nominated by the taxi operators and who fulfil the legal obligations will be granted a seasonal licence by the State.
A special user app, Taxis Monaco, is available and can be used to order or book a taxi from your smartphone in just a few seconds, 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
The Government is thrilled with this new initiative and the excellent cooperation received from independent taxi operators. It will help to promote more “soft” mobility and provide a better service to residents and tourists in the Principality.
